Z – Healthy and nutritious snacks

As many of you are aware I am always looking for healthy, nutritious and tasty alternative for me, my family biological or Zumba and friends.  As of late I have been making a big effort to serve my family clean eating options as I started noticing how much process food they were eating and when I wasn’t home…it was all about quick and instant…high in salt/sugar/fat or all three.  I grew up in a large family in a small town where money was tight and we had gardens, and in the fall we harvested and pickled.   We made all our meal from scratch….but as time went on I found myself looking for easier quicker options too.  It is real easy to fall into grabbing something quick or a boxed meal but do you read the labels…are you still hungry if you eat the recommended serving size or does your stomach bloat and hurt.  Try making your own whether it be a lasagna or a chicken curry…you can definitely eat more food and still consume the same calories and feel satisfied.  Dig out a slow cooker…let your food cook all day and come home to a ready made meal…the best is that smell when you walk in the door.  Make ahead and pack something in your purse for that mid morning or midday need…we always had snack in the freezer for lunches now we still have snacks but they are healthier and better for us.  Now my journey to making a clean kitchen.

What is clean eating?

Eating Clean is treating your body right.  It is eating the way nature intended. You eat the foods our bodies evolved to function best on, and that makes you feel – and look – fantastic. When you Eat Clean you eat more often. You will eat lean protein, complex carbs, and healthy fats. These practices keep your blood-sugar levels stable and keep you satisfied. The best part is that if you need to lose weight it will happen almost without you having to try. And yes, you can have a treat now and again.

Best of all, Eating Clean keeps you feeling great and full of energy. In fact, you can forget all about the days when “dieting” meant feelings of hunger, lethargy or deprivation.

Eating Clean is not a fad; it’s a way of life!

Snack recipes

Power balls are a great portable snack that fill that hunger between meal…it is jam packed nutrition, it is small not bulky in the system as I struggle with eating between classes and just so good.  When they were finished…my son Josh said we better make some more…always a good sign:)  Give them a try….I did and love them I have started substituting with alternative nuts, butters and dry fruit combinations….love variety.

Whole wheat flax cookies to me they are just the best oatmeal raisin cookies.  Try them!
